Top Destinations 2013: Smarter Travel's Destinations to Watch

2012 has come to a close with a fresh, new year here ready for travel possibilities. Smarter Travel has created a list of 10 destinations to watch in 2013. From Ireland's rollings green hills to San Francisco's winding streets, these locales are both diverse and stunning in their appeal.

With St. Patrick's Day revelry, lots of festivals and history, Ireland tops their list. The Gathering Ireland 2013 is a year long celebration of the country and Irish people with festivals, concerts and sporting events. "Take a more introspective journey and explore the ghost towns that remain as legacies of the diaspora, or trace your own family roots across the rolling hills of the island," says Smarter Travel.

San Francisco has always been a top vacation spot with it's laid-back European appeal. With tourist destinations like the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's wharf, the city by the bay is beautiful. It's also a well-known foodie destination with delectable California cuisine and organic, local produce abounding and some of the best restaurants in the country.

Amsterdam is another city to watch on Smarter Travel's list. The Van Gough museum, Rijksmuseum and Ann Frank House are just a few of its tourists attractions. But it's quaint, bikeable streets, smoky cafes and perfect pancakes are all reasons to stay and relax for a while.

Going East, Hangzhou is a lesser visited city in china. It's not only one of Smarter Travel's picks but it is one of the top five destinations in Trip Advisor's Travelers' Choice 2012. The city has a historic appeal being a UNESCO world heritage site and is long regarded as one the most picturesque cities in China. "In 2013, with a new train station, high-speed service to nearby Shanghai, and a new metro opening phase by phase, it will be easier than ever to explore this undiscovered gem of China," says Smarter Travel.
