Disney & YouTube Ditched Vlogger Megastar PewDiePie Over Anti-Semitic Prank; Show Gets Booted Out From Preferred Channel

"Scare PewDiePie Season 2" has been canceled by Google's YouTube. The cancellation took place following Disney's move to sever ties with the YouTube Megastar Vlogger.

Google's YouTube has canceled "Scare PewDiePie Season 2" reality show. In addition, the vlogger's channel was pulled out from its premium advertising program. The announcement from YouTube came just hours after Disney's Maker Studios said it was severing its relationship with PewDiePie.

Felix Kjellberg was popularly known as PewDiePie, a Swedish-born YouTube Megastar who has 53 million followers. Last month PewDiePie, YouTube's most-subscribed channel posted several videos delegating a stunt for which he paid two shirtless Indian men to be in a video where they were holding up a sign that said Death to All Jews. The video gained a widespread notice and many took offense to what appears to be a pattern of anti-Semitic jokes and pranks in his recent videos.

PewDiePie insisted that his point was to criticize the absurdity of an internet service that enables someone to say or do something so outrageous for just $5, says Chicago Tribune. More than a month later, Disney's Maker and YouTube decided that he was out of bounds. In a statement released early Tuesday, a YouTube spokesperson said, "We've decided to cancel the release of 'Scare PewDiePie' season 2 and we're removing the PewDiePie channel from Google Preferred."

Google Preferred is the internet behemoth's advertising program for selling popular brand-safe content on YouTube. Previously, YouTube pulled out the ads from PewDiePie videos in question because of violation of the service's advertiser policies. Kjellberg's infamous videos about the Death to All Jews stunt have been removed from his channel.

Meanwhile, Disney's Maker Studios, which helps YouTube celebrities produce and promote videos in exchange for a cut of ad revenue, said Monday that it would terminate ties with PewDiePie, its best-known star, so far. The studio said in a statement revealed by LA Times, "Although Felix has created a following by being provocative and irreverent, he clearly went too far in this case and the resulting videos are inappropriate. Maker Studios has made the decision to end our affiliation with him going forward."
