Considering that "Survivor: Game Changers" host Jeff Probst said these casts are the strongest that they have assembled, it was a shock for him to see problems during the first challenge. Only one tribe took action, while the other got confused as to who among them should do it.
According to a report from Mike Larkin of the Daily Mail, Probst said that they waited awhile before coming up with this kind of concept for the 34th season of "Survivor." He said that they waited because they wanted to make sure they have "a diverse enough group of 'Game Changers.'"
"Not just guys who were strong in challenges or women who are very strategic," Probst said. "We wanted an array."
Larkin said that Probst's idea of a "Game Changer" is someone who is actively making a decision, a person who makes a move. He said it doesn't mean the person has to always act; it's more about making a decision and not just letting someone take their hand and lead them.
Larkin adds that the competitors of "Survivor: Game Changers" are already enjoying the challenge while coming up with a variety of strategies to come out on top. Despite the cast consisting of the best of the best from the previous seasons, Probst was still shocked during the first day of filming.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Probst didn't expect that only one tribe would take up the challenge to have an advantage while they are being brought to the island. The advantage is a toolkit that's underwater and it's tied in a game ring. The first tribe to reach it will get the toolkit that consists of shovels, saws, nails, hammers, and so on.
"They probably just thought, somebody else is doing it," Probst said, referring to the other tribe. "Nobody ever stopped and said, 'Is anybody going?' It's a huge advantage... bizarre."
