The tragic story of Jovan Belcher's murder suicide, in which he killed his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins and then went to the Chief's team headquarters and killed himself, is unfolding with even more controversy.
NBC Chicago reported that the Kansas City Chief's linebacker killed himself minutes later by shooting himself in the head. He reportedly thanked his coach and general manager before he shot himself outside the practice complex of the team.
"The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today's events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy," said the chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "We sincerely appreciate the expressions of sympathy and support we have received from so many in the Kansas City and NFL communities, and ask for continued prayers for the loved ones of those impacted. We will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities and work to ensure that the appropriate counseling resources are available to all members of the organization."
Sports Illustrated reported that Belcher asked to speak to his coaches before killing himself. He said, "I came here to tell you thank you. Thank you for my chance. I love you, bro," he said to Pioli.
The New York Post reported that before killing himself Belcher had dinner with another woman and had spent the night at her apartment before he went home. The New York Post reported that the woman was Brittni Glass. He took her home after dinner and drinks on Friday night and then spent the next few hours sleeping in his car outside her apartment. Police woke him up around 2:30 a.m. and he went into Glass' building and then came out approximately four hours later.
Glass said to The Post, "I was with him that night, that's it." He then went back to his home which he shared with Perkins where the couple fought and the incident occurred. Perkins' family said in statement according to the post about Kasandra Perkins, "Our wish is for Kasi to be remembered for the love she shared with us all. Kasi will be truly missed."
