Carmelo Anthony has been the subject of numerous trade rumors in the recent month including one which involves a move to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Kevin Love. A recent report alleged that LeBron James is pushing for the said trade deal.
The report published by New York Daily News claims that a league source has disclosed that James is leaning on the Cavaliers' front office to use Love to acquire Anthony in a trade. How reliable is the report?
The Cavaliers were quick to invalidate the report after their 140-135 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday, with James referring to the report and the one who wrote it as "trash" in an post-game interview with ESPN. Love also had a chance to address the issue calling it an "almost laughable lie." He continues by saying that he belong to a team which wants to win with the players it currently has.
In the same ESPN report, Cleveland Coach Tyron Lue stated that Love is happy that teams are showing interest in him. However, Lue adds that the 28-year-old power forward is not going anywhere.
Both the Cavaliers and the Knicks played on Monday. Love contributed 39 points and 12 rebounds against the Wizards, while Anthony supplied 26 points and three rebounds in their home loss to the Lakers.
When asked about the idea of playing alongside Carmelo Anthony, James insisted that he is committed to playing with the roster the Cavaliers currently have. He added that he wants Anthony to be happy regardless of where he is playing.
Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN recently reported that the Knicks were still pursuing Love in time for the Feb. 23 trade deadline. However, Love stated on Friday that he will be staying in Cleveland for a long period of time.
