Sony Pictures Animation has announced that the third installment of the "Hotel Transylvania" series has been moved up to a summer slot from its previously slated September release. This means that "Hotel Transylvania 3" will now hit the screens on July 13, 2018 instead of the previously set September 21, 2018.
The upcoming cartoon movie will directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and will cast the original voice actors: Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, and Andy Samberg among others. The story of "Hotel Transylvania 3" will revolve around Dracula along with his friends on a monster cruise ship, which fits the announced summer release date of the movie, per Bobby Bernstein of Nerd Much.
The official synopsis for "Hotel Transylvania 3" via Dread Central reveals that the animated film will feature Mavis (Selena Gomez) taking Dracula (Adam Sandler) on a family voyage on a luxury monster cruise ship. Dracula unexpectedly falls in love with the ship's mysterious captain, Ericka. This time, it is Mavis' turn to play the overprotective parent in trying to keep his father away from Ericka. Unknowingly, captain Ericka is actually a descendant of Van Helsing, Dracula's arch nemesis.
The first "Hotel Transylvania" brought in over $148 million, while the second installment ranked in $169 million. Bernstein further writes that, with Adam Sandler attached to it, the series was expected to fail, but it turned out to be a huge success. Aside from voicing Count Dracula, Sandler is also the film's executive producer, while the screenplay will be written by Tartakovsky and Michelle McCullers.
The new release date for "Hotel Transylvania 3" puts it up against Paramount's animated film, "Amusement Park." Paramount has released very few details about their upcoming animated feature. Tartakovsky is also the director of an upcoming animated short titled "Puppy," which will debut in theaters as part of "The Emoji Movie" set to hit the theaters in August this year.
