The HBO miniseries "Big Little Lies" will premiere on February 19 and boasts of a stellar cast that includes Academy-Award winners Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman plus more veterans like Laura Dern. There are also some up and coming actresses such as Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz, who have previously worked together in "The Divergent Series."
The series is based on the bestselling novel of the same name, written by Australian author Liane Moriarty. Channel Guide Mag reports that it was Bruna Papandrea who that first thought of the novel as a possible project for her friend Kidman and also for Witherspoon, her producing partner.
It was the "Lion" actress who contacted the author while she was in her homeland and she was able to bargain with Moriarty to turn it into a project, but with the condition that Kidman and Witherspoon will be playing the lead roles of Celeste and Madeline.
It was smooth sailing from then on, with producer David E. Kelley set work on the script while Jean-Marc Vallee, who directed Witherspoon in "Wild", was brought on as the director. But there were instances of conflict, as Variety reports that there was one instance when Reese yelled at her director while filming an emotional scene.
But all is well between the two, who have formed not just a friendship but chemistry on set which brings out the best in both of them. Witherspoon states, " I feel safe with Jean-Marc...I know he's always going to demand the best, but I'm always going to bring my best."
"Big Little Lies" is a story of three mothers living in an affluent town in Monterey, where Celeste (Kidman), Madeline (Witherspoon), and Woodley, playing the character of Jane Chapman form a bond. The conflict comes in the secrets they have in their lives, including one character keeping the abuse she gets from her rich husband a secret.
"Big Little Lies" will have seven episodes in all. Are you excited for this series? Share your thoughts and comments below.
