‘Pillars of Eternity 2' Announced, Seeking At Least $1.1 Million Through Crowdfunding Help

Obsidian Entertainment has just announced that they are developing "Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire." The team is asking help in the game's development, seeking at least $1.1 million, through crowdfunding effort via Fig.

Charlie Hall of Polygon reported that "Pillars of Entity 2" will be a direct sequel to the first game, picking up right where the first game left off. The second installment will be using the statue of Caed Nua as the centerpiece of the entire game.

Hall said the new game will allow players the ability to travel by land or sea, encountering new cultures and environments. He adds that Obsidian even mentions that players, who played the first game, may be able to carry over their saved files to this new game. This would allow them to see how their decisions and actions would carry over to "Pillars of Eternity 2."

This isn't the first time that Obsidian had asked for crowdfunding help in developing the game, according to Steve Petite of Digital Trends. The "Pillars of Eternity" began as a Kickstarter campaign in 2012 and earned $4 million, the most for a video game crowdfunding campaign at that time.

The difference this time, though, is that Obsidian is using Fig, instead of Kickstarter. Fig is a lesser-known crowdfunding platform, but it is exclusive for video games. "Wasteland 3" and "Psychonauts 2" have achieved their funding goals through Fig.

Obsidian is targeting $1.1 million, and as of this writing, it currently has $681,291 coming from 6,685 backers, already achieving 61% of its target. It still has 28 days left to fulfill its goal.

Hall said that the campaign offers the traditional rewards-based crowdfunding and an equity investment as well for non-accredited, non-high-net-worth individuals. More details about the investment opportunity can be found on the campaign website. Check out the "Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire" launch campaign trailer below.
