Get To Know Some Of The Banned Food In The US

For a total foodie, America is heaven. Tons of different tastes can be found in all over the states. But did you know there also food that you can eat in other countries, but are totally banned in the US? Check out some of them:

Kinder Surprise Chocolate Eggs. This is a big hit among kids and adults alike. Different toys can be found inside the chocolate egg, but the US is adamant on not allowing it inside their country. This is because of a 1938 federal law, where food products with inedible substances inserted inside them are not allowed. If found smuggling kinder eggs inside the US, you will most likely face prison time and exorbitant fines. Yikes.

Shark Fins. This Chinese delicacy is known for its medicinal properties as well as being a tasty treat, but it's been long banned in the US. This is because in the last few decades, it's been discovered that overfishing of sharks are causing a fatal dwindle in their population. The US is strict on this rule, and illegal smuggling of shark fins are confiscated in the US customs regularly.

Casu Marzu. Typically, Americans love cheese-but this kind of cheese is banned in the country due to sanitary reasons. To make a Casu Marzu, a block of Pecorino cheese will be left to rot and be infested with maggots, and over time when the maggots have laid their eggs, they have eaten away the cheese and will by then be ready for eating. Gross, right? Although some who have tried it swore the cheese is good. But yes we don't mind the US government banning this one.

Haggis. This is a popular Scottish food, but the US doesn't allow its citizens to eat it. Since 1971, the USDA has banned any food items containing lungs, and since this pudding is basically made from a sheep's pluck (heart, liver, and lungs), it is automatically banned in the US.

Sassafrass Oil. Before, sassafrass oil is one of the main ingredients of root beer. But after an extensive study, it's been discovered that the safrole and shikimol in sassafrass oil are being used to make a highly dangerous party drug, and for that, the US banned its manufacture and existence in the country.
