AMD's latest high-end graphics processing unit, the Vega 10, has shown a lot of promise and potential. It can actually take on NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080.
According to a report from WCCFTECH, the Vega 10 will feature two stacks of HBM2, allowing for up to 16GB of memory. It will also have 64 Compute Units or 4,096 stream processors, the latest 14nm GFX9 core architecture, and a clock speed of about 1526MHz.
The report adds that AMD has designed these new GPUs for various applications, such as professional work, server oriented tasks, and gaming. It's expected that the AMD Vega 10 will feature power efficiency and a higher clock speed.
AMD has already demonstrated the performance of the Vega chipset, most recently at the CES 2017. The demonstrations have shown that AMD's latest chipset is faster than the GTX 1080.
Mike Jennings of Trusted Reviews said that AMD's Vega card ran the game "Doom" at 70fps at a 4K resolution. This performance is 10 percent faster than the GTX 1080.
Jennings adds, though, that the result should be taken "with a whole packet of salt" as the demonstration is an official AMD test and it's only for one game. He did the results still provides optimism about the performance of the GPU.
He said this shows that AMD, which can now provide smooth 4K performance from its flagship products, is now ready to take the fight to NIVIDIA's GTX 1080. He adds that AMD's Vega cards will also be able to run VR headsets, multi-screen setups, and ultra-wide panels with "equal skills."
There's still no official pricing yet for the AMD Vega 10, but Jennings said people can expect to pay more than ₤600 ($760) for the card. This is based on the price range of NVIDIA's GTX 1080.
WCCFTECH said sources told them that AMD's latest GPUs will be launched in May this year. Check out the AMD Vega 10's performance in "Doom."
