There's a map that shows 2016's most popular shows streamed on Netflix based on the states of the U.S. with 'Scandal' being the most popular as a lot of states are searching for this series. The data, though, is not an accurate representation based on the criteria used.
HighSpeedInternet has created a map of the U.S. that shows which Netflix streamed TV series is popular per state. Their criteria were based on Netflix's top 75 TV show and they cross referenced it with Google Trends data.
Through these criteria, they were to determine the series that are most likely to be streamed per state. "Scandal" is considered as the most popular TV series based on the number of states that's likely to stream it. It's followed by "Orange is the New Black."
The map that HighSpeedInternet has created, though, is not an accurate representation of Netflix's popular shows per state, according to Jordan Freiman of Death and Taxes Magazine. One primary reason he said is that Netflix doesn't release any data about its viewership so this map is not official.
Freiman also said that the criteria the website used don't tell the real story as a show being searched more doesn't necessarily mean that it is being watched. It also doesn't mean that it's being watched on Netflix as well.
Lastly, Freiman said the website using only the top 75 shows on Netflix is also limiting the result of the map. He said there's a possibility that there are still shows outside the top shows on Netflix could still be popular in certain states.
