North American fans of Nintendo's Super NES classic game "Mario Kart" will be in for a treat as "Mario Kart 64" is now available for download. The game, though, does not support ghost data.
According to Nintendo, "Mario Kart 64" for Wii U, which has been available in Europe since January, is now available for download for $9.99. It offers improved courses and its latest four-player head-to-head mode, so fans can now play against three of their friends instead of the usual 2 in the SNES console.
Fans of the classic game will also have 20 different courses to choose from. The courses are filled with valleys, dips, tunnels, jumps, and bridges. Nintendo also added the off-TV play feature, which allows the players to play the game using the Wii U GamePad instead of through the TV.
The "Mario Kart 64" is part of Nintendo's Virtual Console service that allows fans to play great games from old consoles such as the NES, SNES, and Game Boy Advance. The new game, though, doesn't have ghost data support.
In a report from Destructoid last January, the "Mario Kart 66" doesn't support N64 Controller Paks, which means ghost data is not supported as well. So fans, who are hoping to enjoy this feature as well, will have to play the game without it.
Mario Kart's racing wiki define ghosts as basically replays of a player's past Time Trial performance, meaning they will behave the same as the player who used them. Ghosts were usually saved in memory cards, so the Virtual Console version of the game doesn't have a way to save them. To watch the "Mario Kart 64" gameplay, check out the video below.
In other news, Nintendo's latest console, the Nintendo Switch won't be having removable batteries. This could be a problem, especially when it comes to the consoles battery life.
