Nintendo has just filed to renew the trademark of "External Darkness," a GameCube game that's known for its fourth wall breaking effects such as the TV appearing to turn itself off. This move had people expecting that the game will be available to Nintendo Switch.
TechSpot reports that Nintendo filed its request to renew the trademark of "Eternal Darkness," last week. A move that's seen as a way for Nintendo to make the game available to the Switch console. And one way to do that is through the Virtual Console service that Nintendo Switch is working on. The service will allow Switch users to play GameCube games.
Eurogamer reported earlier this month that sources have confirmed to them that Nintendo had worked on making GameCube games playable in the Nintendo Switch via the Virtual Console service. The sources said the company has already tested the service and three games have already been prepared for the Switch.
The games that Nintendo will be bringing to the Switch are "Super Mario Sunshine," "Luigi's Mansion" and Super Smash Bros. Melee." It is said that there will be more games to come, and that game could be the "Eternal Darkness."
This is not the first time Nintendo will be offering the Virtual Console service as it already did it before with the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. But it will be the first time that the company will have GameCube games available on the service.
The reason for this is the Switch's supposed upgrade in performance and hardware. Though there have been a lot of rumors about the console's hardware, it's safe to assume that it will be more powerful than the Wii U.
For now, fans will just have to wait until January when Nintendo reveals everything about the Switch. Hopefully, they can also confirm that "Eternal Darkness" will be available on the console. Check out the gameplay of the game in the video below.
