Great Wall of China is known worldwide but understanding and knowing its 'untold' history could be a great way to intensify the essence of traveling and could leave a great reminisce to the traveler. Because of its firm human built structure with lifetime preservation, Great Wall of China was considered to be one of the greatest Seven Wonders of the World.
According to TravelChinaGuide, there were lots of beautiful stories and legends when the Great Wall was being created and even after it was created. Many stories were slowly hidden as time passes by and some were told.
The first story concentrates on a woman that lost her husband who helped in the construction of the Great Wall. Meng Jiangnu's story happened during the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC). Fan Quiliang, Jiangnu's husband was caught by federal officials and was tasked to help in building the wall.
After several months, Jiangnu did not hear any news from his husband from the time he was caught so she decided to go and look for her husband. When she already arrived at her husband's workplace, she discovered that Quiliang was already dead. Jiangnu was surrounded by sadness and depression so she cried, wept, and mourned causing now a section of the bridge to collapse.
Another story also happened during the Ming Dynasty (1368BC- 1644BC) and tells the life of arithmetic genius worker named Yi Kaizhan. Kaizhan is very knowledgeable in building the wall and he even calculated that 99,999 bricks are needed to build the Jiayuguan Pass. The supervisor did not believe any words from Kaizhan and said that in case of miscalculation of the bricks to be used Kaizhan and his fellow workers will be punished and will continue to work for three years.
Luckily the project was finished and completely furnished, however; one brick was left behind the city gate. The supervisor noticed the brick and is ready to punish Kaizhan and his fellow workers but suddenly Kaizhan revealed that the brick is destined to be there because it is from a supernatural being. Until the current time the brick is still in Xiwong city gate and it was neither removed nor replaced because it is believed that one wrong move of the brick can cause a collapse of the whole wall.
The stories regarding the Great Wall add up to its firm and historical structure as this was preserved for a long period of time.
