It is not a secret that the Cleveland Cavaliers are in the market hunting for a point guard to come off the bench for its star Kyrie Irving. As the trade deadline draws nearer, rumors are abuzz that the Cavs are eyeing Los Angeles Lakers' guard Jordan Clarkson to fill that role.
Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue revealed to Cleveland.com that they're going to continue experimenting with various rotations until the issue is resolved. "It's going to take more than that, until, you know, we get a backup point guard," said head coach Tyronn Lue. "When we get a backup point guard, we can understand what our rotation's gonna be. We don't have to switch it on a night-to-night basis, so our team can get in a better flow."
Meanwhile, The Orange County Register reports that Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton has been helping their shooting/point guard Jordan Clarkson to adjust in his new role in the second unit. Walton does this by showing Clarkson game footage from the 24-year-old's rookie season in 2014. During that year, Clarkson averaged 11.9 points and 3.5 assists in 59 games, a feat that showcased his potential as a scorer and playmaker. In the current season, he's notching averages at 14.8 points and 2.3 assists in 39 games played.
The latest buzz from the NBA rumor mill has the Cavs and the Lakers negotiating a possible deal with Clarkson at the centerpiece. Rumor has it that Clarkson will be moving to Cleveland in a two-for-one deal, with the Lakers acquiring shooting guards Iman Shumpert and Jordan McRae, and a first-round draft pick in 2020.
It remains to be seen whether this trade will materialize, as other teams appear to be interested in having Clarkson suit up for them. In a separate article from Travelers Today, the Miami Heat has supposedly taken interest in acquiring him and is willing to trade their center, Hassan Whiteside, for the Filipino-American guard.
