"Parts Unknown" host, chef, author, and travel extraordinaire Anthony Bourdain knows burgers, and he has recently shared his secrets to the world. Here are some of the most important pointers that would help any home cook up their burger game.
"With a burger, as with all the things that you cook, you have to ask yourself, 'is this, this thing I'm doing to this perfectly good classic dish, is it making it better?'" said Bourdain in an interview with Tech Insider.
He adds: "It might make it more entertaining. It might dazzle peopel and say, 'Oh look how clever he is.' You might deconstruct it in a way that impresses people or delights them or astounds them, but does it make it better?"
Thrillist broke the rules down, making a list of 10 of Bourdain's "Burger Commandments," highlighting the following: make use of a squishy potato bun, have some "well-ground, good quality beef" and processed cheese that's meltable.
Bourdain also suggests that it's best if you could eat the burger with only one hand, and be able to have all the elements in one bite when you're eating it. In terms of condiments, he says that the classic ketchup (and possibly mayo) will always be best.
"Now look. I like a blue cheese burger, but as with all things you cook, there are trade-offs. I like lettuce on a burger. Maybe even a tomato is nice," said Bourdain. "But it make it structurally more difficult to eat. In a perfect world, you should be able to eat a hamburger with one hand and get a representative chunk of all the elements."
Meanwhile, Bourdain is busy promoting his latest book--a cookbook called "Appetites," which contains food that he likes serving his loved ones, as well as food that he thinks everyone should learn how to make. This is his first cookbook in over a decade. He's also busy working on the ambitious (and delicious) Bourdain Market project at Pier 57.
