Xbox 360 Free Game Promo: Microsoft Offers JRPG 'Lost Odyssey'

Microsoft is offering Lost Odyssey as a free download this month on Xbox Live. Together with Blue Dragon, they are now available digitally for the first time on the Xbox One. The free download promo is intended to celebrate a milestone. The Xbox One backwards compatibility library now has surpassed 300 games.

According to computer publication PC Magazine, at first, there were an initial 104 supported Xbox 360 games in the compatibility list. Now it has grown to over 300 and Microsoft has decided to commemorate that occasion with the giveaway of Lost Odyssey. Lost Odyssey is a 2008 Japanese RPG that was developed by Mistwalker. Gaming website Eurogamer reported that the game is one of the few JRPGs for the Xbox 360.

Lost Odyssey is free to download for this month only. Xbox Live top brass Larry Hryb, also known as Major Nelson, said that the epic RPG was given to Xbox Live users to enjoy as a way of thanking them for being a fan of Xbox.
To download the free digital copy of Lost Odyssey, it must be added to a user's Xbox Live account before December 31, 2016. The game is a 22.4 GB download on the Xbox One while on the Xbox 360, it comes in at 16.2 gb.

According to gaming website IGN, the Mistwalker developed game about an immortal warrior who can't remember his past was just released digitally on Xbox Live. The physical disc version of the game was already backwards compatible on the Xbox One. Lost Odyssey garnered good reviews from critics when it came out in 2008. The game received praise for its text-based short stories that were written by acclaimed Japanese novelist Kiyoshi Shigematsu.

Microsoft also released to the Xbox Marketplace another Mistwalker developed JRPG which is not part of the giveaway. Mistwalker's Blue Dragon was also exclusive to the Xbox 360 and is backwards compatible on the Xbox One. Both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are the work of Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's Mistwalker Studios.
