Airplanes are one of the most used means of transportation by many now. That is why it is only fitting to make people understand the vehicle more and how it affects us. When in an airplane, planes do not only help us get from one place to another fast but it also helps us lighten and ease our moods. Interesting, right?
According to a study found in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, light affects the mood of a person. When under a bright light, a person's hot emotion is tuned on and this results to a person feeling warmer. Therefore, when the opposite is done, the person becomes more relaxed and at ease.
This is the reason why the lights used in airplanes are soft and light. To ease the stress brought about by hassle of boarding gates and traveling, airplanes are equipped with these kinds of lights that will effectively tone down everyone's emotion.
"We've always wanted to create a different kind of atmosphere aboard our aircraft and light plays exactly into our hands," Nik Lusardi, design manager at Virgin Atlantic Airways, shared in his interview with Bloomberg. "You can get people energized or you can relax people very, very quickly."
That is why U.S. carrier Virgin America is one of the few airlines that uses a pink and purple palette with a soft neon glow in their aircraft. They also have different light settings that corresponds to different times of the day that will passengers adjust.
