'Barbie' Movie: Comedy Queen Amy Schumer The Unlikely Star In The Big Screen Movie Adaptation?

The brains behind the on-screen adaptation of 'Barbie' are in the talks with famous standup comedienne Amy Schumer. The 'Trainwreck' star may play the main lead iconic "Barbie" live action movie that will be released in 2018.

The rights for 'Barbie' were bought from Mattel by Sony in 2014 to produce the film. Since then, Sony has been working on recreating this iconic plastic bestseller and give it a live-action version.

Barbie's new movie will have a contemporary feel to it and voluptuous comedienne is in the talks of bringing it to the silver screen, according to Rolling Stones. It is reported to have an "Enchanted" feel to it in the sense that it delightfully combines animation and live action.

Though Amy Schumer is mostly known for her standup comedy works and also for a non-apologetic way of discussing politics and sex, she found her break on the silver screen with her much applauded and ironically-titled movie "Trainwreck." She is currently in the works of becoming the lead role in Mattel's doll debut movie.

According to The Guardian, in the new movie animated "Barbie", voiced by Schumer, is thrown out of Barbieland for her eccentricities. Barbie sets out on an epic adventure in the real world and discovers that "perfection comes on the inside, not the outside." She then returns home to save other dolls from this ideal.

Since its acquirement in 2014, production has encountered some issues like script changes and theme alterations. The film's director has yet to be announced as well. However, Hilary Winston, Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele are reported to be doing a script rewriting before the production of the movie starts and just in time for the movie production in Spring 2017.

Amy Schumer is also looking forward to three upcoming films and one of which she co-wrote with her close friend, Jennifer Lawrence. The second film is a mother-daughter comedy film that also stars Goldie Hawn. The third movie is a Dreamworks Project "Thank You for Your Service," which is a drama about post-traumatic disorder.
