Due to the widespread of anti-Trump protest, the Foreign Ministry of Turkey has issued a warning to its citizens, urging them to avoid travelling to the United States.
According to The Jewish Press, the Turkish Ministry had come to understand via the social media accounts of protesters that the rallies, protests, and movements are meant to continue on for some time.
The travel advisory from Istanbul has also advised its citizens to be calm in regard to the potential "xenophobia and racist abuse", urging them to contact local security forces to report any relevant incidents.
The alarm of the Turkish government is a result of the countrywide protests in support of the Democrat presidential candidate, Hilary Clinton. Less than one week following the election of Donald Trump, more than twenty major US cities have already experienced large anti-Trump rallies and protests.
Donald Trump's election as the next president of the United States has incited rallies due to his alleged racism, sexism, and radical ideals. As such, thousands of students, activists and rights advocates have taken to the streets to protest the president-elect.
According to CNN, major cities such as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago have been included in the list of cities experiencing the protests. While a majority of the protests have remained peaceful, some demonstrations have led to arrests and spurs of violence.
The Turkish government has been carefully following local US media. The Turkish Embassy in the United States has urged its citizens to stay away from the demonstrations and increase their security at home and in the work place.
Trump has commented on the demonstrations via his Twitter account, stating that the demonstrators are professionals who are incited by media. He also followed up by stating that they are simply a "small group" with deep American passion.
For those wondering if it is safe to travel to Istanbul: in late October, the US State Department had issued a travel warning, advising US citizens from travelling to Turkey due to the increased amount of threats coming from terrorist groups.
