Top Five 'American Horror Story' Filming Locations: Where Fans Can Enjoy A Horror Holiday

Taking America by storm are the weird mysteries and happenings set on the show "American Horror Story" for filming, producers set out to find the creepiest and maybe haunted locations in America to serve as the background for this horror thriller TV show. Here are the locations where each season was filmed, for fans of the famous TV show.

Season 1 - "Murder House": Harmon Residence

Also located in a leafy suburb of Los Angeles, the actual location is the Rosenheim Mansion at 1120 Westchester Place. According to Movie Pilot, the house is currently open for bookings via AirBNB, for dedicated "American Horror Story" fans brave enough to spend the night.

Season 2 - "Asylum": Briarcliff Asylum

Although the asylum is set in New England in "American Horror Story", the scenes were actually filmed at the Romanesque Santa Ana Courthouse at 211 W. Santa Ana Boulevard in California. The courthouse is even open to the public for free from 9:00am to 4:30pm on weekdays.

Season 3 - "Coven": Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies

In "American Horror Story", the Academy was set in New Orleans, also the state where the actual filming took place. The Buckner Mansion served as the base of operations for The Coven and can be found on 1410 Jackson Avenue. Other locations in the area are Marie Laveau's Cornrow City Salon, which is actually Maison Vitry on 2000 Dumaine Street, and Madame Lalaurie's Mansion is actually the Gallier House on 1132 Royal Street. After a whole day of touring, have a drink where Fiona Goode did, at the Cure Bar on 4905 Freret Street.

Season 4 - "Freak Show": Mott Manor

Another location in New Orleans, the fictional Dandy and Gloria's Mott Mansion location set in Florida was actually filmed at the Lounge Vue House & Gardens on 7 Bamboo Road. Built by Edgar and Edith Stern in 1939-1942, the place is open to the public from 10:00am to 5:00pm from Monday to Saturday and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday. Also in the vicinity is High Noon, where Dandy and Andy the gigolo meet, which is at the F&M Patio Bar, 4841 Tchoupitoulas Street, and the Lakeview Diner where the "freaks" are released, which is actually Camellia Grill on 626 S Carrollton Avenue.

Season 5 - "Hotel": Hotel Cortez

Also located in Los Angeles, the Countess's hotel was actually filmed at the Oviatt Building on 617 S Olive Street. Although the set was built at Fox Studios, the interiors were inspired by the Cicada restaurant's Art Deco architecture. The only thing they changed was the addition of a neon sign to the look.

Season 6 - "Roanoke": Roanoke House

The creepy woods surrounding Calabasas served as the filming location for this scary house. The Perrel Calabasa El Rancho is the actual location and can be found at 1187 Malibu Canyon Road in Calabasas, according to On Set Hollywood. Also in the vicinity is Los Angeles' Orpheum Theater where chapter 1's "knock-out punch" scene was filmed.
