Walt Disney fans would never forget that heartwarming song in the 1991 American animated romantic musical fantasy movie, "Beauty and the Beast": "Tale as old as old as time. Song as old as rhyme. Beauty and the beast."
Disney has long been producing live-action versions of other animated films such as "Cinderella", "Maleficent" and "The Jungle Book". Now to the delight of die-hard Disney fans, the company announced that there would be a live-action version of the "Beauty and the Beast" in 2017.
Add to that, the new Belle is none other than the Hermione in "Harry Potter". Ms. Emma Watson is the perfect actor to play the role.
A teaser trailer is shown in theaters in May. It starts by showing the Beast's legendary castle, dilapidated and surrendered to wear and tear. The inside of the castle is seen with what used to be a glorious grand ballroom.
On the wall was a family portrait with a handsome young prince, but a monster-y growl disturbs the house tour. The Beast scratches the painting with his deadly claws.
Then a French voice is heard, "Look — a girl!"
"Yes. I can see it's a girl. You fool!" Another voice responds.
The French voice answers, "What if she is the one?"
And just like in the animated film, a girl walks towards an enchanted rose that is responsible for the castle's spell.
The teaser trailer starring celebrity Emma Watson can be viewed here, released 10 months before the movie's schedule showing.
Bill Condon will direct the live action version of "Beauty and the Beast" with screenplay from Evan Spiliotopoulos and and Stephen Chbosky. Other cast members are Dan Stevens as Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth. It will be co-produced with Mandeville Films.
