Box Office: ‘Hobbit 3’ Reigns Supreme After Bringing In $207M Within 17 Days

"The Hobbit 3" is still at the top of the box office despite being shown for a couple of weeks already. Not only that, the unwavering support of general viewers and fans has already secured a total gross of $207 million since it premiered.

According to National Monitor, the final instalment of "The Hobbit" franchise has emerged triumphant for the third time at the box office amid a rather tight competition.

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" seized the top box office spot for the third consecutive time, leaving "Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" at the second spot on Friday.

"unbroken" and "Into The Woods" are close behind the top two films in the first weekend of 2015.

Despite the significant decrease in ticket sales at the U.S. movie theaters, Warner Bros's "Battle of the Five Armies" continued to prove its popularity by raking in $8.4 million on Friday, which is expected to hit $22 million over the weekend.

Per the domestic box office, "The Hobbit 3" has already exceeded the $200 million mark. By Sunday, it is expected to rake in$220 million, which is already enough to consider it the eighth highest grossing film of 2014.

The final instalment of the famous trilogy is also doing quote week in the international business scene. By Thursday alone, it has reportedly earned $457.8 million, reports TV Grape Vine.

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" is the last movie in Peter Jackson's trilogy that tells the story of the prequel to the Lord of the Rings series.

The first instalment, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" was released in 2012, which was followed by "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" in 2013.

"Woman in Black 2" - the first new release of the year - finished second this Friday after earning $7.8 million. Disney's "Into The Woods" earned $7.5 million wile Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" raked in a solid $7.4 million, Full-Time Whistle has learned.
