Lizard Squad U.K. Arrest - A member of the notorious group that has been hacking systems of gaming networks was detained by English authorities this week.
According to Polygon, the Lizard Squad U.K. Arrest story happened when the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit in England managed to trace the location of a self-professed member of the notorious hacking group.
The Lizard Squad has created a buzz inc August after it claimed responsibility for several hacking incidents that included the disruption of the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network systems on Christmas Day.
Per updated reports on the Lizard Squad U.K. Arrest, the detained member was identified as 22-year-old Vinnie Omari, a resident of the United Kingdom.
Police officers reportedly took Omari's devices such as his phones, laptops and an Xbox when they arrested him from his home, reports the Daily Dot.
Omari even told the media that law enforcement officials came to his home with a search warrant.
The embattled hacker also dished that police looked for evidence revealing "email addresses, usernames, passwords, documents contained names associated with Paypal fraud" as well as evidence related to the "hacking of the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live systems over the Christmas period."
Though Omari is believed to be an alias of the hacking group member, Washington Post has learned that authorities used the said name on their documents.
Nevertheless, Omari was released on Tuesday since no charges have been filed against him. On his bail notice, it was stated that his offences include "unauthorised computer access with intent to commit other offences," reports Gizmodo.
Just last week, another self-proclaimed Lizard Squad member - identified as "Ryan" - said they were responsible for breaking into Sony's network which led the company to pull "The Interview" starring Seth Rogan and James Franco from theaters.
Ryan has since expressed his regret over the things they did which caused a lot of trouble to many people, including that August incident when an American Airline flight was diverted over a bomb threat tweet they made.
"The arrest yesterday (30/12) is in connection with an ongoing investigation in to cyber fraud offences which took place between 2013 and August 2014 during which victims reported funds being stolen from their PayPal accounts," a press release from the authorities read.
Another member of the Lizard Squad, who is believed to be residing in England, is currently being investigated by the FBI.
In an email to a media outlet last week, the Lizard Squad said that they are doing the online attacks for the sole reason that "chaos is entertainment."
