Vatican Protest On Christmas Day: Femen Activist Bares Breasts At St. Peter’s Square And Snatches Baby Jesus From Nativity Scene

Vatican protest on Christmas Day involved a Femen activist baring her chest to the public. Apart from taking off her clothes, she also snatched the Baby Jesus statue in the life-sized Nativity scene, which was placed right in the center of St. Peter's Square.

This particular Vatican protest ultimately insulted the faithful who were gathered around the area to celebrate Christmas.

The infamous Vatican protestor was actually a Ukrainian activist named Yana Zhdanova. She was already arrested and is now being held for questioning. She could possibly be charged with carrying out obscene acts in public, delivering insults, and theft.

Zhdanova was topless when she took the statue of Baby Jesus nearly an hour after the Pope offered his Christmas blessing to the people who were gathered in the Square on Thursday. A Vatican guard was quick to put a stop to this desecrating Vatican protest and immediately covered Zhdanova with his cape.

According to the accounts of those who were able to witness what happened, Zhdanova was clutching Baby Jesus's figure while shouting "God is woman."

The spokesperson of the Vatican, Reverend Federico Lombardi, has stated that this Vatican protest was being taken very seriously, particularly because of the location that it happened, as well as the disruption of the solemnity of the event. According to Lombardi, Zhdanova's doings aimed to "intentionally offend the religious feelings" of multiple people.

Moreover, this was not the only move the Femen activist group has done of late. Just last month, three activists also showed their breasts, which has now been identified as the Femen hallmark, in the Square. They were protesting the pope's visit to the European Parliament.

Lombardi said, "It is, therefore, correct to proceed with the appropriate rigor against repeated acts that intentionally, repeatedly, and severely infringe on the right of the faithful to the respect of their legitimate religious convictions."
