The Golden State Warriors have already expressed interest in adding the service of free-agent shooting guard Ray Allen, a source close to situation disclosed on Thursday.
San Jose Mercury News writer Jimmy Murkin reported general manager Bob Myers revealed during a conversation on 95.7 The Game already reached out with Allen's representatives in hope of acquiring the all-time leading three-point shooter.
"We threw our team out there at his representation, and I think they're vetting what they want to do," Myers said during the radio show. "Obviously you've got to look at a guy like that. He's a smart enough guy. He's going to look around the league to see what's best for him."
"He's an elite shooter, he's elite professional and he's been there," Myers added. "He checks a lot of boxes for a player that you want."
The Warriors are currently atop the Western Conference ladder with an impressive 19-2 record under the tutelage of first-year head coach Steve Kerr. With two of the best shooters in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson already in the fold, the prospect of adding Allen would make the Warriors three-point shooting even more lethal to their opponents.
According to Ryen Russillo of ESPN Radio, Allen's camp is expected to entertain talks in January with the possibility of going out of his hiatus around All-Star break.
"Ray Allen is telling teams to talk to him in January and that he'll make a decision about his future in February, tweets Ryen Russillo of ESPN Radio. The Cavs remain the favorite to sign him, according to Russillo, though Allen and his camp have continually insisted that he's unsure whether he wants to play, much less which team he'd want to play for."
The 39-year old Allen averaged 9.6 points on 37 percent shooting from the three-point line last season with the Miami Heat. Despite his advanced age, teams still believe Allen remain a reliable player with the ability to provide production off the bench and clutch shooting in pressure-packed situation.
