With Jeremy Lin becoming a free-agent next summer, the Asian-American’s future with the Los Angeles Lakers is no doubt surrounded with uncertainty. Still, there are lots of teams that could give Lin another chance to be a productive player in this league.
The Golden State Warriors: Topping the list of the best destination for Lin are the resurging Dubs, who have emerged into a legitimate title contender this season.
With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and the rest of their young talents finally stepping up their game into the next level along with Steve Kerr’s fast-paced triangle offense, the Warriors are expected to stay as perennial championship favorites in the next three to four years.
Lin, who started his career as an undrafted rookie for the Warriors in 2011, could be a great fit as a backup for Jeremy Lin or Klay Thompson. His ability to play both guard positions along with his expertise in running high-octane offense would make him a great fit for the Warriors.
Warriors owner Joe Lacob even admitted that he had regrets letting the 26-year old baller walk away after his rookie year and see him grow into a pretty solid player in the league.
The Brooklyn Nets: Returning back to New York could be another option for Lin, who made a name for himself as a member of the Knickerbockers in 2012. The Nets have already shown intention to tweak their roster by trading some of their cornerstones (Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez) in exchange for talents that fits Lionel Hollins’ pick-and-roll dominated offensive system, and there are few better point guards in this league who can really execute pick-and-roll offense than Lin.
The Philadelphia 76ers: While the Sixers are on a serious tanking mode, there’s always the chance of adding a talent who could play well under Brett Brown’s run-and-gun offense.
There are speculations that Michael Carter-Williams could be available on the trading block, but his strong play as of late might make him untouchable from trade talks for now. If the Lakers want to infuse a young talent to their backcourt, Tony Wroten might come cheap for them because of his reasonable salary and his consistent production either as a starter or a bench player.
The Phoenix Suns: The Suns will always be an excellent landing spot for Lin because Jeff Hornacek’s system is a perfect match to the Asian-American’s strengths, which is predicated on run-and-gun approach and lots of pick-and-roll actions.
Right now, the Suns are trying to solve a logjam at the point guard position with Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas all battling for playing time. Analysts believe the Suns might gamble on Lin if Dragic decides to join another team when he becomes a free-agent next summer.
