Lakers News & Rumors: Jeremy Lin is Nothing But Backup Point Guard – Yahoo Sports Analyst Adrian Wojnarowski

Jeremy Lin's tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers continues to be shrouded with criticism, as Yahoo Sports NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski tackled on the Asian-American's future with the purple-and-gold and his true value as a basketball player.

In an exclusive interview on the Home Team morning show, Wojnarowski pointed out that Lin would end up as a one-and-done player for the Lakers, as the franchise look to strengthen the point guard position by signing an All-Star caliber playmaker next summer.

Moreover, the Yahoo Sports analyst believed Lin is nothing but a backup point guard in the NBA, and the only reason why he has been starting for the Lakers is because the team doesn't have a better talent in that position after Steve Nash was ruled out of the season with back injury.

"I think this Lin is a one-year player with the Lakers. He's a backup point guard in the NBA. He's obviously be thrust into a bigger role because of who they have [on the Lakers roster], with the injuries and with Steve Nash being out for the year. You can see that Lin's confidence is not there. There's not a great chemistry between Kobe and Lin, that's obvious," Wojnarowski claimed.

Acquired by the Lakers in a trade with the Houston Rockets last summer, the 26-year old Lin hasn't been the player many expected him to be following his Linsanity days with the New York Knicks.

But despite his inconsistency, Lin is nevertheless putting up solid numbers (averaging at least 11 points and 5 assists per game) despite sharing the same backcourt with shot-happy Kobe Bryant.

While it's true that Lin is not on the same level as Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul or Stephen Curry, the Asian-American star posses enough skills to get the job done. Perhaps, playing for a prestigious franchise is both a gift and a curse for Lin, who is earning his biggest salary of his career this season at almost $15 million.

It's a gift because he was given the opportunity for a legendary franchise like the Lakers. On the other hand, it's also a curse for the reason that the pressure is just too much for Lin to take in. One thing is clear here, Lin deserves to be a starter, though just not with the Lakers.
