NBA Rumors: Gerald Green Potential Trade Target For Bulls, Clippers & Lakers

Gerald Green's tenure in the Valley of the Suns might come to an end soon, as Zach Lowe of Grantland reported that the Phoenix Suns will soon put the high-flying forward on the trading block.

According to Lowe, the Suns are expected to find a trade partner for Green at some point before February's midseason trade deadline.

With the re-signing of PJ Tucker to a three-year, $16.5 million deal and the selection of TJ Warren 14th overall last June, all directions are pointing that the Suns will eventually unload Green's expiring contract in exchange for draft picks or another promising stud.

"It's a matter of math. The Suns just inked Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas, Zoran Dragic, and the Morrises to multiyear contracts, and they'll get an extra first-round pick from the Lakers at some point over the next three seasons. Barring a big trade, the roster is damn near full going forward," Lowe stated.

"The Suns do have three starting-quality point guards, and those guys will eat up a lot of the shooting guard minutes. Green is movable, and if the Suns can get a couple of second-rounders for him, they might pull the trigger."

The 28-year old Green averaged career-high 15.8 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line, becoming one of three Suns players (Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic) to be nominated for the Most Improved Player of the Year award last year.

There were rumblings that the Los Angeles Lakers might perhaps pull off a deal for Green, who can certainly fill the gaping hole the team has at small forward. Other reports that contenders like the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers are possible landing spots for the swingman.

The Clippers attempted to trade Matt Barnes and first-round pick for Gerald Green last summer, and it won't be surprising if they reconsider trading for him again, especially if he continues to play well this season.

"Clips looking to deal first-round draft pick and Matt Barnes, looking at Iman Shumpert, Tony Allen, Gerald Green," Brad Turner of LA Times.
