Bill Simmons, the hardcore Boston Celtics fan and editor of Grantland, believed Jeremy Lin will have a big season with the Los Angeles Lakers, perhaps as huge as he had during his time with the New York Knicks three years ago.
In the latest edition of Bill and Jalen’s 2014-15 NBA season preview, Simmons talked about all sorts of Lakers stuffs (mostly negative), including his prediction of a bottom-five finish for the purple-and-gold at the end of this campaign.
“I think they are top-5 worst team in the NBA,” Simmons predicted. “And if guys start getting hurt, I think they go and try keeping that top-5 pick. That’s my prediction.
Despite his macabre prediction for the Lakers this coming NBA season., Simmons believed there’s going to be some bright spot for the purple-and-gold fanbase, as his alter-ego Clairvoyant Bill thought Linsanity will have its sequel this year, and this time it will be under the bright lights of Los Angeles.
“Clairvoyant Bill is here. He thinks Linsanity is gonna be a thing. I think we are back with Linsanity. Linsanity 2.0, I think he’s going to do great with the Lakers,” Simmons claimed.
The Grantland editor stressed that Lin’s subpar performance these past two seasons with the Houston Rockets is a result of playing mostly off the ball with backcourt, partner James Harden, which isn’t his specialty.
Simmons added that the big Asian-American market in Los Angeles along with the opportunity presented to him by the Lakers could trigger the revival of one of the greatest stories in the NBA.
Jalen Rose, on the other hand, is a little bit pessimistic on seeing another Linsanity fever this season, but he nevertheless thinks the 26-year old Lin is going to be a really fine player in the league.
He even claimed that Lin deserves to be a starter somewhere in the NBA, and there’s no doubt he will have a long productive career.
Entering his fifth NBA season, Lin suddenly found his self teaming up with superstars Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash after he was traded by the Houston Rockets last summer.
He was projected to be the backup for Nash, but Lakers head coach Byron Scott is now counting on him to be the Lakers’ opening day starter after the 40-year old veteran suffered another setback at training camp.
