Raiders coach fired reports were quick to become viral as soon as Terry Collins of the Associated Press posted the news on his official Twitter account on Sunday night. According to Collins' tweet, the Oakland Raiders had decided to fire head coach Dennis Allen.
Although he deleted it moments later, his tweet has been posted on social media long enough for it to spread like wildfire. The fact that Collins posted it on social media, and then later deleted it, caused fans to wonder even more.
Collins later explained that the tweet that he just deleted were actually just "rumors" that "hadn't been confirmed by the AP." He tweeted, "Please disregard my recent tweet about the Raiders. These rumors haven't been confirmed by the AP. I'm sorry."
Additionally, a much later tweet caused the fans to get confused even more. He said, "I have no information about the status about the Raiders coach. I was never covering the story."
Rumors that the Raiders coach fired circulated on Sunday morning before the games even started. Jason LaConfora of CBS Sports has reported that there was a huge possibility that the Raiders coach fired if the team laid an egg for their fourth game in a row.
Sadly, the Raiders did lose that game, and they did so in such a spectacular fashion. They trailed by 31 points as soon as the fourth quarter kicked off. Many fans believed that it was the team's most lopsided loss of the season. The Raiders have suffered from indignity when their rookie quarterback, Derek Carr, had to leave the game because of an ankle sprain.
The Raiders, with Allen as their head coach, have not won a game since the 11th week of last season. Allen was actually hired as the team's head coach back in 2012. Under Allen's coaching, the team finished with a 4-12 record in both of his first two seasons.
Allen's highest level of coaching, before he became the head coach for the Raiders, was in 2011. He was the defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos then. Moreover, Allen is actually the seventh Raiders head coach since the year 2002. Taking a look at the numbers, it would seem that this particular job has very little to no stability.
