Vermont Bacon Ad: Sneakers Bistro and Cafe Road Sign Advertisement Offends Muslim Woman; Backlash Explodes After Company Takes Down Sign

Vermont bacon ad - A road sign advertisement promoting Sneakers Bistro and Cafe's bacon had been taken down the traffic median along Winooski's Main Street last week, after a woman complained of its insensitivity and offensive content.

The Muslim female who described herself as "a vegan," reportedly called the Vermont bacon ad which read: "Yield for Sneakers Bacon," offensive on a Front Porch Forum post.

She wrote: "Given the large number of Muslim families in Winooski, as well as many others who do not eat pork for a variety of reasons, it seems unnecessary for this insensitive business sign to be at the city's main crosswalk." The woman also protested that the sign "clutters an already dangerous crosswalk."

"Our goal is to bring joy to Winooski as a community gathering place - never a source of stress or drama," Sneakers owner Marc Dysinger, wrote on Front Porch Forum. "We always appreciate any advice or input to help us achieve that goal. Thank you neighbors!"

The restaurant owners contacted the complainant and took down the Vermont bacon ad out of respect Friday, NY Daily News reported. However, the controversy didn't end there as the decision to remove the sign was met with numerous backlash as well.

"I respect her religion and her right to believe what she wants but I'm pretty sure the First Amendment extends to bacon and the selling of it," Winooski resident Caleb Wiley, told WPTZ-TV.

Sneakers wrote on its Facebook page that "We are her to serve BREAKFAST, politics." It also explained that it took down the Vermont bacon ad "as a gesture of respect for our diverse Community"in addition to safety concerns raised.

Meanwhile, the company's decision to remove the Vermont bacon ad didn't seem to sit well with other social media users, USA Today has learned.

"Please try to tell as many people as you can around there about this ISIS loving anti-American business," one commenter wrote. "Let's run them out of business and then run the owners out if the USA. They can go open a place in Palestine."

"Thanks for supporting and giving into the Muslims! I'll never eat at your restaurant!" another one added, apparently disappointed with the restaurant owners' decision to take down the Vermont bacon ad.
