Tim Lambesis vocalist of As I Lay Dying Band was sentence to 6 years of imprisonment for pleading guilty of hiring a hit man to kill his estranged wife. The verdict was handed down at San Diego Superior Court last May 16 by Judge Carlos Armour.
In February, Lambesis pleaded guilty on the conviction set against him. Since May 2013, he had been on a custody dispute with his wife over their children. This battle eventually led him to ask his personal trainer at the gym if he knew someone he could employ to kill his wife. Alarmed, the trainer approached San Diego Sheriff's Department and informed them about the incident.
The sheriff's department immediately sent an undercover detective to meet up with Lambesis. During their meet-up Lambesis paid the undercover detective $1,000 as down payment. The remaining $19,000 will be paid in full once he gets news that the deed was done. With this evidence on hand, the singer was immediately charged for murder-for-hire.
Megan Murphy, the singer's estranged wife will be receiving protection for 10 years. But despite the verdict that was handed down, the family of Megan still fears for their safety. They tried to convince the judge to give Lambesis maximum term but was unsuccessful. Megan's family expressed that Lambesis has a lot of followers especially noting the horrible comments she had received online. They are scared that one of them might carry out in killing her successfully as they don't know who else he had spoken to.
When Lambesis was allowed to speak, he expressed that he felt remorseful about what happened.
As I Lay Dying remaining band members continued on with their lives and change the name of their band to Wovenwar.
