Five students were reportedly injured after a 17-year old boy began shooting near Therell High School in Atlanta. Three of the victims were reportedly to be still in the hospital. Two of them were considered already stable while the other one is in critical condition. Trevion Morgan, one of the victims of the shootout, informed a journalist from CBS46 that a group of students had planned to meet outside the school after class hours as there was a rumor that there will be two girls who are going to fight. Instead, no fight had happened as gun shots were suddenly heard.
According to Atlanta Police Station they have arrested the suspect, Marcellus Brooks and charge him with aggravated assault. As per their investigation, Brooks started shooting to a large group of students that where hanging out in an intersection near the school. There were no details yet what his motives are why he started shooting the students.
Base on the records obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from Fulton County Superior Court, Brooks was arrested a week before the shooting incident. He was suspected as one of the perpetrators involved in a robbery case that took place last March 29. He pleaded not guilty and has post bail worth $8,000. He was expected to appear on a court trial this coming August when he became involved in another crime. This time, the judge deny any bails and concluded that Brooks be sent back to jail until his next court appearance.
A day after the shootout, it was noticed that a large number of students did not report immediately. The school system of Therell High School toughened up their security and had cancelled their school activities as a precaution. Although the incident took place outside of their school grounds, they did not take for granted to secure the lives and safety of their staff and students.
