The Zodiac Killer Case: An Unsolved Mystery

CNN reports that a man from Louisiana claims the famous Zodiac Killer as his father. Gary L. Stewart, the author of a newly published book "The Most Dangerous Animal of All: Searching for My Father and Finding the Zodiac Killer" claimed that during his research he has find a similar resemblance between the two.

The Zodiac Killer is probably one of the rarest cases that still remained unsolved. The incident took place somewhere on the late 1960's and early 1970's. His target were both men and women aged between 16 and 29. Although the killer claimed to have killed 37 victims, only 7 were confirmed, two of which managed to survive the brutal attack.

He mocked the policemen handling the case by sending out cryptic message to newspapers. Around August 1969, Vallejo Times Herald, The San Francisco Examiner, and The San Francisco Chronicles received three letters from the killer itself. In that letter, the killer demanded that all of them should be printed out on their newspaper or else he would start killing people.

After this incident, he continued sending out letters but unfortunately no one seemed to be able to crack the code that the killer has written. He had boasted that if the police will be able to decode it, they would eventually learned his identity.

For years, these crimes still remains a mystery. It was never revealed who his identity was. Although there were several claims to have been the Zodiac Killer or having the killer as his friend or father or neighbor, there were no conclusive evidence that all those statements were true.

Now, Gary L. Stewart, a business man from Baton Rouge claimed that Earl Van Best Jr., his biological father was indeed the notorious killer. His book's co-author, Susan Mustafa, famously known as a crime genre veteran, has also supported his claims. Tina Andreadis, HarperCollins publicist has informed New York Magazine that there were a strong semblance between the police sketch of the Zodiac killer and that of his father's mug shot.

Whether the claims is true or not, the mystery of the Zodiac Killer still remains an open case.
