Sam gets endorsement for the first time after closing a deal with his signature.
The SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Michael Sam has finally made his first endorsement. The player has established a partnership with Visa, a company that also had a sponsorship deal with the NFL since 1995. He was recently featured in a Visa commercial wherein viewers are encouraged to judge him with the way he plays his game and not with the way he lives his life off the field.
According to an ESPN report, Visa's chief marketing officer said that when Sam gets the endorsement, he is just the perfect fit for their campaign. It was also said that his ad is meant to inspire people to continue and reach for their goals in life. "We wish Michael the best on and off the field as he embarks on the next chapter of his life." Kevin Burke, Visa's chief marketing officer added.
In the Visa commercial, the NFL player will be seen bench pressing and then a voiceover says about the way he should be judged. As Sam gets his endorsement with the Visa company, the content is somewhat related to his personal life since many have already judged him when he confessed about his sexuality.
Sam recently made headlines this year as he came out revealing his real sexuality. University of Missouri's star defensive end is set to become the first openly gay player to join the NFL. On the final round of the NFL draft on Saturday, Sam was picked by the St. Louis Rams to join the team.
Although Sam gets his endorsement, a debate was intensified when the player failed to be picked earlier during the three-day Draft. Issues concerning his real sexuality and playing abilities were raised. His stock actually fell when he came out as gay in February. As the NFL player was officially picked by the Rams, Sam gets more endorsement offers to consider this time.
