93 year-old woman was shot to death by a police officer in her home in Hearne, Texas on Tuesday.
Described by the neighborhood as a sweet woman, Pearlie Golden was fatally shot by a police officer. According to the witnesses, the 93 year-old woman was shot five times on Tuesday. County officials have identified the police officer as Steven Stem and said that he fired his weapon after telling the woman to put down her gun.
The Robertson County Sheriff's Office issued a statement on Wednesday saying that the police responded to a 911 call about a disturbance involving a lady waving a gun outside a home on Pin Oaks street. The statement also said that the officer asked Golden to put down her weapon. The 93 year-old woman was then shot by the officer.
Moreover, Golden's neighbors are questioning why the officer shoots the old woman. Golden, according to her neighbors is a sweet woman and was known as Miss Sully in their black community. One resident even said that even if Golden has a gun, she's in her 90s, so the police could've had just shot into the air to scare her.
The 93 year-old woman shot by the police was taken to the St. Joseph Hospital and was pronounced dead before 10 p.m. According to the report by the Associated Press, a revolver was found by the officers on the scene. They said the gun was believed to be the weapon that Golden had at the time of the shooting.
Meanwhile, Stem is placed on paid administrative leave as a standard protocol when an officer is involved in a shooting. The case of the 93 year-old woman shot on Tuesday is now under investigation by the Texas Rangers, Hearne Police and the Robertson County District Attorney's Office which will eventually be presented to a grand jury. Furthermore, the investigation includes how the old woman had the gun and what was she doing with it.
