The World's 50 Best Restaurants have been revealed. In the Oscars of dining, or the San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards, Noma is Copenhagen took the top spot.
Noma took its fourth win on the list and was awarded during a ceremony in central London on Monday. Head chef, Rene Redzepi was clearly excited about the honor.
"It's too (expletive deleted) crazy!" Redzepi said at the ceremony, according to CNN."Thank you for believing in us. In the last year (after the restaurant was awarded second place) my staff and I looked into each others' eyes and said 'let's just really really work hard.' We made a plan and said 'let's make this the best year we've ever had. But to have this is a whole surprise, none of us expected it."
The San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards is now in its 12th year. Some restaurants took special honors in addition to being placed on the list. The biggest jump on the list was Central in Lima, Peru which made No. 15 after ending the list at 50 last year. A newcomer made a big debut as Gaggan in Bangkok made No. 17. Last year's No. 1, El Celler de Can Roca was bumped to No. 2 this year and Osteria Francescana in Italy held on to the third spot.
