Menzel honored along with other personalities on Friday by the variety magazine for its 'Power of Women: New York' issue.
The performer together with other well-known personalities was recognized on Friday not for the fame or wealth she gained but for the charitable works she have accomplished. The event which also featured other talents took place in Manhattan and was hosted by designer Zac Posen. Menzel honored in the said event was joined by other powerful women who were all recognized for their contributions.
Other honorees includes other women like Sarah Jessica Parker,Susan Sarandon, Iman, Claire Danes and A&E President Nancy Dubac. According to the Associated Press, Danes was honored for her work with the charity Afghan Hands, a literacy program for Aghani women; Dubac for her work with Project rubicon/The Mission Continues and Sarah Jessica Parker for her advocacy for the New York City Ballet.
Sarandon was also given an award for her support to Hope North, a group that provides education for Ugandan children of war while supermodel Iman was acknowledged for her work with Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation in Somalia. Meanwhile, Menzel honored for her charity works for her own foundation.
The "Let It Go" singer was correctly introduced by Josh Groban in the luncheon when she said "He got my name right!" after her name was scrambled during the Academy Awards when introduced by John Travolta. Menzel honored on Friday for her charitable works in her own foundation that she established. Her foundation, "A BroaderWay" was created by herself together with husband Taye Diggs in 2010.
Broadway star's foundation is actually assisting young girls from the urban communities that are underprivileged. They also use the influence of art to build up self-esteem for the children. At the time that Menzel was honored, she read a heart-warming essay from one of her students.
