Tornado Alert Over the Weekend: Which Cities Are Very Likely To Be Hit?

Tornado alert! Tornado alert! It seems that our country's placid weather and tornado drought are to end too soon as forecasters are now predicting a three-day battle against rough weather conditions brought about by intense tornadoes.

According to Mashable, a potent weather system has been found to be moving into the Plains states and proceed slowly toward the Mississippi River Valley.

The weather system is expected to produce a multi-day severe weather outbreak with thunderstorms, capable of making tornadoes from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Experts claim that if the potent weather system indeed realizes its full potential, a major boost in 2014's tornado tally could be very likely.

Chief of Operations at the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. Bill Bunting said that the "ingredients necessary for a large-scale severe weather outbreak are likely to start appearing on Sunday in the High Plains states."

The perfect ingredients according to Bunting include a strong low-pressure area in the upper atmosphere and abundant low-level moisture and winds.

The low-pressure area will trigger the development of a surface low in the plains while the low-level moisture and winds will serve as fuel to the drastic weather conditions.

"This is a very strong upper system with very strong wind shear," Bunting said. Wind shear pertains to winds that change speed or direction with height or possibly both.

Bunting also said that Omaha to New Orleans people need to be attentive to weather condition updates this weekend and be prepared to any possible life-threatening situations.

"We are on track for at least a 3-day round of severe weather," Bunting added. "It's difficult to say at this time just how significant" of an event this will be.

The tornado alert over the weekend will primarily threat the High Plains and Eastern Plains, affecting cities such as Omaha, Neb; Lincoln, Neb; Wichita, Kan; Oklahoma City, Okla and Abilene Texas.

On Sunday, the storm's threat will shift east, potentially harming Omaha to Little Rock.

Then, on Monday, severe thunderstorms are expected in Columbia, Mo.; St. Louis, Mo.; Memphis, Tenn.' Little Rock, Ark.; Nashville, Tenn.; Birmingham, Ala, and possibly as far south as New Orleans.

Bunting warned people, who are possibly heading to outdoor activities over the weekend, should be updated on weather warnings so that they can quickly search for shelter when the tornados come.

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is scheduled for Sunday and organizers have already prepared three parking garages near the start and finish lines. These garages will serve as shelter to the participants in case the rough weather conditions take place.

Flash flooding is also seen as a possible occurrence amid the anticipated tornadoes.

The intense tornado alert for the weather system came in time for the third anniversary of a 175-twister, multi0day outbreak that slayed 316 people, and was hence considered as the deadliest outbreak in U.S. history.
