The 53 year-old journalist who has been into battle with some deadly illness and was even expected to only live for two years was tough to conquer her ailments. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. However in 2012, she was again diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a known disease of the bone marrow.
As she combat with the condition, Roberts relied to her family as the source of strength. Last year, Roberts publicly revealed that she is a gay woman and is in a relationship with Amber Laign, a massage therapist. The Robin Roberts- Amber Laign love affair was hidden behind the curtains for many years until they finally confirmed it later last year through a Facebook post.
The said Facebook post was Roberts' way of thanking those people around her, she mentioned her family, her doctors and nurses and most of all her long-time girlfriend. Roberts' revelation of her sexuality has also raised many questions like "why is she saying this now" or "why come out so late"? According to Roberts, it took them so much time to announce about her same-sex relationship due to her partner's shyness. Roberts also said in her Facebook post that she's at peace and is greatly filled with joy.
"At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude. I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health...I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together." Roberts wrote.
