TWENTY20 WORLD CUP CAPTAIN CHANDIMAL OF SRI LANKA JUST GOT SACKED: WHO IS TO REPLACE HIM?

Twenty20 world cup captain Dinesh Chandimal of Sri Lanka just got sacked Wednesday. As Sri Lanka's cricket selectors left the country with no captain because they just fired Twenty20 world cup captain Dinesh Chandimal, they have to replace him immediately. The new captain of Twenty20 world cup captain is Lasith Malinga, while Angelo Mathews was retained as the Test and one-day skipper.

24-year-old Chandimal, the former Twenty20 world cup captain apparently wanted out of the last three matches, including the semi-final and final, of the recent World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. This was due to poor batting form. The decision from the former Twenty20 world cup captain left Malinga in charge.

Sri Lanka was able to beat the West Indies in the semi-final and India in the final round and had them winning their first major title since 1996, when they bagged the 50-over World Cup. According to a release from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Mathews the all-rounder was retained as the Test and one-day captain. This will go on till the end of next year's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, with all the occurrences in the players' positions shifting, including the firing of Twenty20 world cup captain Dinesh Chandimal, 24-year-old left-hand batsman Lahiru Thirimanne was promoted to vice-captain in all three formats, says the release.

Sri Lanka is about to play two one-day matches against Ireland in Dublin early next month, and this ahead of a tour of England that has one T20 international, five one-dayers and two Tests.

In the meantime, other than the former Twenty20 world cup captain having been let go, there has been a pay dispute between Sri Lanka Cricket and its 13 contracted players. Fortunately, the issue ended Wednesday when the players agreed to accept 10% of the participation fees from International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events.

The players had previously demanded 20% of the participation fees which SLC would not provide. They were due to sign their central contracts by March 1 but the impasse dragged on for almost two months.

Twenty20 world cup captain Dinesh Chandimal of Sri Lanka just got sacked, and it seems that the team can apparently do without him.
