Country crooner, Dexter Roberts is eliminated from American Idol. Roberts, 22, received the lowest number of votes tonight with Jessica Meuse just behind him. Dexter was a crowd favorite and show frontrunner, receiving great reviews from the judges week after week.
This week was "Competitors' Week" theme. Each finalist selected a song for his or her fellow contestants. Dexter's performance of Luke Bryan's Muckalee Creek Water was not to his style and the performance although not awful was considered "at the middle of the pack" at best. The elimination is a hard hit for Roberts but he took the news in stride and smiled to the crowd.
He is a jack of all trades, claiming he's a farmhand, tractor driver, and works for his friend's dog kennel business, Bang Bang, Flop Flop, back in Alabama. He absolutely loves dogs, often posting pictures of him and his four-legged friends. Dexter Roberts is a country singer. In fact, Florida Georgia Line sent Dexter a video message after he performed their hit song "Cruise" on American Idol. He is, unfortunately, the last singer of the southern genre of this season.
He sang Lucky Man one last time, one of his best performances in the show. This is by no means the end for the singer who exhibited talent and country charm all throughout the competition.
This elimination also causes the revelation of the Top 6: CJ Harris, Sam Woolf, Jessica Meuse, Alex Roberts, Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson. Next week's theme is "a lil' bit of country and a lil' bit of rock and roll".
