American Airlines: Teen Who Made Fake Twitter Threat Under Arrest in Rotterdam

The girl who threatened American Airlines as a joke on Twitter has been arrested.

A Dutch teen, who goes by the Twitter handle @QueenDemetriax and calls herself Sarah, sent a threat that was supposed to be a joke on the social media site. However American Airlines didn't take the threat lightly. The girl has been arrested according to the Daily Mail.

The girl wrote to the airline on Sunday saying, "Hello my name's Ibrahim and I'm from Afghanistan. I'm part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I'm gonna do something really big bye."

American Airlines responded right away, saying, "Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI."

The girl became scared over the response and started to plead with the airline saying that she was only 14 and was from the Netherlands and had never been to Afghanistan.

"I'm so sorry I'm scared now." she wrote. "I was joking and it was my friend not me, take her IP address not mine."

The girl is now under arrest. Rotterdam Police tweeted: "Dutch girl (14) from Rotterdam arrested after American Airlines threat. Investigation continues. #Rotterdam #Police #Force @americanair"

According to Roland Ekkers, a spokesman for the Rotterdam Police, the city held an investigation after the tweet was sent. However the girl chose to turn herself in and went to the police station with a family member.

"Police spoke to prosecutors to decide whether we could arrest her and, after some deliberation, we decided that we could arrest her and she has been arrested," Ekkers told the Daily Mail. "She is now being interviewed by specially-trained officers who are used to speaking to young offenders."

The girl has not yet been charged with anything but she could face charges for making false threats. The police are working with law enforcement in the US.
The teen gained thousands of followers because of the incident, topping over 30,000 by Sunday night. She replied to her newfound "fame" saying, "I always wanted to be famous. But I meant like Demi Lovato famous, not Osama bin laden famous."
It is not clear if American Airlines did actually report her to the FBI.
