Las Vegas - What happens in Vegas doesn't really stay in Vegas, especially if somebody throws you a shoe while having a speech.
A woman in blue dress threw a shoe to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while having a speech before more than 1000 guests in the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries meeting.
Clinton was delivering a keynote speech when the woman tossed a black and orange shoe at her at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
The 66-year old former First Lady noticed something was fluttering towards her and dodged herself from the object. "Was that a bat?" she exclaimed.
She stooped down to see what the object was. "Is that somebody throwing something at me? Is that part of Cirque de Soleil?" she joked.
Clinton received a loud applause and laughs after she cracked a joke on the incident. "My goodness, I didn't know that solid waste management was so controversial," she quipped.
"Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did," she added as a resumed her speech.
A participant in convention told the Associated Press that "the woman had walked down the aisle to within six rows of the front of the seating area, threw the items, turned around, put her hands in the air and walked toward the back of the room."
The woman was immediately escorted out of the ballroom, and admitted that she threw the shoe and several pieces of papers. A participant to the convention handed a piece of paper thrown by the blonde woman in blue dress which turned out to be a copy of a confidential document named as "Operation Cynthia" from the Department of Defense in 1967.
The blonde woman, believed to be in her middle age, was taken into custody and will be filed appropriate charges after the incident, authorities said. She refused to identify herself and explain her motive for throwing the shoe at Clinton.
Mark Carpenter, spokesperson of Institute, told Associated Press that the woman was uninvited in the convention.
US Secret Service Special Agent Brian Spellacy confirmed that the woman was taken by authorities for questioning but refused to give details on the woman's identity and the criminal charges that she would face.
The outgoing chairman of the organization, Jerry Simms extended an apology for what he called a "crude interruption" of Clinton's keynote speech.
In her previous speeches, Hillary Clinton claimed that she is seriously considering vying for Presidency in the next elections.
