What are the top travel destinations in the U..S? As part of its Travelers Choice Awards, TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, released a list of the top travel destinations in the world, including the United States.
The sixth annual awards honor nearly 500 destinations including the winners for the top spots in the world, and individual lists for Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, China, Middle East, Russia, South America, the South Pacific, the U.K. and the U.S.
"If you're looking for trip inspiration, look no further than the Travelers' Choice Destinations," said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. "Our global travelers are the tastemakers for uncovering the best places to visit around the world."
The Travelers's Choice Top travel Destinations were chosen based on millions of reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travelers. The award winners were determined using an algorithm that considered the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, attractions and restaurants in destinations worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

The list shows that southern destinations are on the rise in the U.S as ten of the top 25 are southern cities and Texas had two cities on the list. Houston saw the biggest jump on the list, up 13 spots to #12. Austin is new to the list and made #18. Other Southern spots that climbed include New Orleans and Charleston while Atlanta and Nashville were also new to the list.
