Benzino shooting incident occurred during the funeral of the rapper's mother resulting to a gunshot wound in his right arm.
Rapper Benzino or known as Raymond Scott in real life was shot during his mother's funeral on Saturday. While the funeral procession is going on, gunfire was heard in Route 3 southbound near Exit 11 in Duxbury at around 11.55 in the morning. According to sources, a man pulled up in his Bentley next to the rappers' red Dodge SUV and fired striking Benzino three times.
During the Benzino shooting, the rapper exited his vehicle and was taken by a passerby to the Duxbury Police Department according to the Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz. The rapper was then rushed to the South Shore Hospital. The hip-hop artist is just fortunate enough to sustain non-life-threatening injuries and is now already in a stable condition.
Rapper Benzino was known to be the founder of The Source Magazine in 1988. He has also been starring in the Love and Hip Hop Atlanta since 2012. Love and Hip Hop Atlanta is a reality television show that follows the lives of more than a dozen local hip hop artists.
Identity of the suspect in Benzino shooting was identified to be the rapper's own nephew. The 48 year-old rapper's trigger man was named to be Gai Scott, 36 years old. His nephew was arrested and then charged with assault and intent to murder.
According to the family of both parties, a growing tension was already felt between the two for some time already. The quiet funeral which everybody has expected for Mary Scott, Benzino's mother turned out to be a nearly tragic moment. The Benzino shooting incident almost took another life but the rapper is just lucky that he didn't sustain severe injuries.
An arraignment will take place in the Plymouth District Court this Monday.
