Earthquakes today include the 5. 1 magnitude that was felt near La Habra with more than two dozen aftershocks ranging from 2 to 3.6 magnitudes resulting to minor damages.
The 5.1 magnitude that was centered in La Habra was felt around 9:09 in the evening which was actually preceded by a lower magnitude of earthquakes. A 2.1 magnitude was felt an hour earlier prior to the 5.1 magnitude and was followed by a 3.6 magnitude earthquakes today that struck the city.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquakes today that affected the city is centered near La Habra and was felt across the Orange County with a depth of nearly five miles. The said quakes were also felt as far south as San Diego and as far north as Ventura County. The highest magnitude reports of earthquakes today are the magnitude 5.1.
The 5.1 magnitude report of earthquakes today is said to be the largest quake which was lasted for about thirty seconds has caused distress to the people in the region. Officials of the region along with the crews from Los Angeles Department of Public Works are checking dams, bridges and other infrastructures for other damages.
According to the Brea Police Department, a car overturns due to a rock slide in the Carbon Canyon after the quake. Reports of earthquakes today said that up to fifty people were displaced due to a damaged housing but no injuries were recorded. There were also information about several structure damages which includes gas and water main breaks.
Numerous power outages also followed after the quakes. According to previous reports, the said 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred near the Puente Hills thrust fault that is stretched from the San Gabriel Valley to the downtown of Los Angeles.
USGS seismologist Lucy Jones told the Los Angeles Times that the 5.1 magnitude quake is a 5% chance of a foreshock of an even larger quake.
"There could be even a larger earthquake in the next few hours or the next few days," she said.
