Passengers on another Malaysia Airlines flight got a scare when their plane had to make an emergency landing because a generator failed. The flight from Kuala Lumpur was supposed to land in Seoul but it had to be diverted to Hong Kong due to the issue.
Firefighters were put on standby at Hong Kong's airport for the arrival of the Airbus A330-300 before it landed around 3 a.m. on Monday. It landed without any issues, the Associated Press reports.
Malaysia Airlines released a statement saying that flight MH066 was diverted to China because the main generator that supplies regular electrical power had failed. Luckily the backup power unit was able to continue to supply power to the plane.
"Electrical power continued to be supplied by the auxiliary power unit," the airline statement said. "The aircraft was then diverted to Hong Kong for rectification and landed uneventfully."
There were 271 passengers on the flight who were supposed to head to Incheon International Airport near Seoul. After the incident, they were placed on other flights with other carriers.
This comes after Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 went missing during a March 8 evening flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Rescue teams are continuing to search for that missing flight without much luck. Debris has been spotted in various parts of the Indian Ocean but there is no sign of the plane yet. Other theories are that the plane was hijacked and it may be hidden somewhere on land.
