A Royal Caribbean cruise ship was forced to cancel two stops on a recent trip due to oil loss and a propulsion issue. The problem occurred on the Adventure of the Seas.
The propulsion issue cannot be repaired until the ship returns to dry dock, which won't happen until March 30. However Royal Caribbean says the ship's next trip won't be affected, Cruise Critic reports. Cruise Critic member Lavaland spoke about the incident saying "Just read on our Roll Call that the Adventure of the Seas, which I am supposed to be boarding in 5 days is currently stuck in St. Kitts with a busted propeller."
Lavaland wasn't wrong. Royal Caribbean confirmed the issue to Cruise Critic. Cynthia Martinez, director of global corporate communications for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd said "Yesterday, as Adventure of the Seas was arriving to St. Kitts, the ship became aware of oil loss from the ship's fixipod. Oil booms were immediately placed around the ship to contain the oil. Engineers required additional time in port in order to continue working on the issue."
Due to the work, the departure from St. Kitts was delayed until 3 a.m. Since the engineers can't repair the ship permanently until it is in drydock, the fixipod is offline until March 30. This means that the ship will sail at a reduced speed for the remainder of the trip.
With the delayed departure from the last port of St. Kitts and the reduction of speed, Royal Caribbean was forced to cancel the scheduled ports of call of Aruba on March 20 and Curacao on March 21, but that doesn't mean guests get to miss out completely. Instead, the ship will stop at Antigua, St. Maarten and St. Croix.
